Terms of Service

1. What Chit is

Chit is a quoting and invoicing tool for self-employed and small trade businesses. It helps you record jobs, generate invoices, and keep basic records. It is not an accountancy, tax, or legal service — you're responsible for the accuracy of your own invoices, and for meeting your own tax and VAT obligations (including Making Tax Digital requirements, where they apply to you). If you're unsure about any of that, speak to an accountant.

2. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it.

3. Plans and billing

• The free plan allows up to 5 invoices per calendar month.
• The paid plan removes that limit for a recurring monthly fee, billed automatically through Stripe until you cancel.
• You can cancel any time from the billing portal in Settings — you'll keep paid access until the end of the period you've already paid for, and we don't provide refunds for the unused part of a billing period.
• We may change pricing with reasonable advance notice; changes won't apply retroactively to a period you've already paid for.

4. Acceptable use

Use Chit for genuine invoicing of your own clients. Don't use it to send fraudulent invoices, to store data you don't have a lawful right to hold, or to try to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service.

5. Your data

You own the business and client data you put into Chit. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle it. You can export or delete your data at any time by contacting [your contact email].

6. Service availability

We aim to keep Chit available and working properly, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access — like any small software product, there may be occasional downtime or bugs. We'll fix problems as quickly as we reasonably can.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to Chit is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect losses, like lost profits or lost business. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — those can't legally be excluded.

8. Ending your account

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, breach the law, or go unpaid after a reasonable grace period.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

10. Changes to these terms

We'll give you reasonable notice of any material changes before they take effect.
